UAE VAT Calculator & Registration Check
Add or remove 5% VAT, and check whether you must — or may — register.
How this works
- VAT in the UAE is charged at the standard rate of 5%. Adding VAT: amount × 1.05. Extracting VAT from a VAT-inclusive price: amount ÷ 1.05.
- Mandatory registration: taxable supplies and imports over the previous 12 months exceeded AED 375,000, or are expected to exceed it in the next 30 days.
- Voluntary registration: supplies, imports or taxable expenses exceed AED 187,500.
- Zero-rated and exempt supplies, reverse charge and designated zones are not modelled here.
Estimates and checklists for general guidance only — not legal or tax advice on your situation.
Questions
Do zero-rated sales count towards the threshold?
Yes — zero-rated supplies are taxable supplies and count. Exempt supplies do not.
Why register voluntarily?
A registered business can recover the VAT it pays on its costs, which can matter for a start-up with high set-up expenses.
